Total = ₹1,180

Remove Tax Formula:
Pre-Tax Amount = Total ÷ (1 + Rate ÷ 100)

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between sales tax and VAT?
Sales tax is collected only at the final retail sale. VAT (Value Added Tax) is collected at every stage of production. For end consumers, both are calculated the same way.
How to calculate price before GST?
Use "Remove Tax" mode. Divide the total price by (1 + tax rate ÷ 100). Example: ₹1,180 ÷ 1.18 = ₹1,000 pre-GST price.
How to calculate GST on discounted items?
Calculate GST on the discounted price, not the original price. Example: ₹1,000 - 20% discount = ₹800. GST on ₹800 = ₹800 × 18% = ₹144. Final = ₹944.
What is the difference between inclusive and exclusive tax?
Inclusive tax: Price shown includes tax (common in India, UK, EU). Exclusive tax: Tax added at checkout (common in USA). This calculator supports both.
Do I need to charge GST on shipping?
In India, shipping charges are taxable under GST at the same rate as the product. Include shipping in the taxable value when calculating GST.
